6th Annual Romanian Cultural Marathon
From Local to Global,
Art & Culture for a Cause

Picture
The marathon kicks off in style with the Opening Night Gala Event, featuring community highlights and tributes to our members and partners such as Heifer International. We celebrate honored guest and ROCX member Marius Stan, with an excerpt and Q&A on his role in the Golden Globe and Emmy winning drama Breaking Bad.  The evening continues with a screening of Gopo Award Nominee  "Sunt o Baba Comunista” directed by Stere Gulea, followed by Q&A with main actor Marian Ralea.

Saturday and Sunday mornings are dedicated to the next generation of cultural enthusiasts. "The Magician" Marian Ralea and the members of Teatrul Vostru  help us relive the wonder of our childhood years with Romanian fairy tales and "Abracadabra". Join us as we become the heroes in a carnival of stories passed down from generation to generation. The fun continues with the 2014 Gopo Awards winning film "Cainele Japonez", followed by the evening reception and the community highlight with Don Lothrop of  RomaniaOne.  The evening is then transformed for the U.S. theater premiere of  "La Lilieci" by Marin Sorescu, another spectacular production by Marian Ralea and his talented group.

Each evening showcases and premiers the best in Romanian cinema, while also celebrating local filmmakers and their short films. Sunday night features local filmmakers Irina Botea and Nadia DiMofte and distinguished literary heavyweights  such as Dr. Thomas Pavel as an introduction to the Chicago premiere screening for "Miss Christina", a film based on the novel by Mircea Eliade.
