What is a Silent Auction?
Silent auction is an auction in which bids are written on a sheet of paper. The auction is "silent" in that there is no auctioneer selling individual items, the bidders writing their bids on a bidding sheet left on the table near the auctioned items. The sheet of paper shows all previous bids so that people participating in the silent auction know that they need to bid higher in order to get the item. They also have the opportunity to revisit bidding sheets before the auction is closed if they really want something being offered at the silent auction. The bid sheets will have a fixed starting amount, and a "guaranteed bid" amount which works the same as a "buy now" amount. The highest bidder pays the price he or she submitted. |
ROCX is Celebrating Community in 2013
The magic of the holidays is created by the traditions we share and pass on generation to generation. Join ROCX to celebrate our traditions and the holidays in culmination of an outstanding year. In 2013, ROCX grew to new heights of community involvement through our cultural, educational, and social integration initiatives.
Partnerships with other local non-profits, such as the Alliance Francaise in Chicago, or groups, such as Upwardly Global and Facets, helped ROCX provide exceptional outlets for showcasing Romanian culture and education within the Chicago community. Nonetheless, the events would not have been possible without our beloved community partners such as the Romanian Consulate General in Chicago, Ro Act Theater and the plethora of sponsors, entrepreneurs, artists, musicians and entertainers that kept the party going. ROCX is very fortunate to have incredible supporters within the community that dedicate both their time and money to turn our common vision into tangible reality. Our party is a celebration of all that has passed and in support of all the magical things to come. Please join us as we share the importance of community and the relevance of all those that help make it happen. The event will take place at the Dank Haus Community Center in Chicago, Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 6:30 pm. 
At ROCX we start volunteer recruitment very early. This year our holiday party include a children’s program during the day. This event is free, so bring your little ones as we share the magic of the holidays .

The space then transforms into a winter wonderland filled with a healthy stock of nationalism and holiday cheer. 
Nothing makes Romanians happier than a good party! This includes incredible food from former Black Bird chef Ovy Pop, who paints the town pink with his delicacies prepared at the Ovy Transylvanian Bakery, while jammin’ to artists such as Pet Peeve with Lorian Toth and his Balkan gypsy rock or to Vox Maris with their more traditional rock sound which emulates Romanian legends such as Phoenix, Iris, and Compact.
